Enhanced analyses on metal powder compaction are performed with addition of solid lubricants, using the discrete element method (DEM). Mechanical characteristics for metal powder compaction are analyzed for powder mixtures containing steel-graphite and copper-graphite. Mixing conditions are explored and stress transfer ratio, compressive force distribution throughout the powder compact are analyzed. Significant improvements in mechanical characteristics are observed and the effects of graphite lubricants are highlighted for the powder compaction process.
