Heterogeneous reactions computational fluid dynamics model of the internally-cooled bubbling fluidized bed reactor for CO2 methanation process
This study proposes a heterogeneous reactions computational fluid dynamics (HR-CFD) model of an internally-cooled bubbling fluidized bed (IC-BFB) reactor for CO2 methanation process. In the IC-BFB reactor, the immersed heat exchanger coils were used to recover the exothermic reactions heat and to stabilize the reactor temperature at approximately 400 ◦C. The HR-CFD model included an Eulerian-Eulerian multiphase CFD model, a stiff-chemistry heterogeneous reaction kinetics, and a gas-solid-wall heat transfer model to identify the hydrodynamics, product concentrations, gas-solid reaction rates, and heat transfer behaviors in IC-BFB. The HR-CFD results were compared with both experimental data and model results from the literature, and showed good agreement with the literature data. The present HR-CFD model provides an useful guidelines for chemical engineer to design the BFB reactor with an internal heat exchanger in CO2 methanation process.
